How Cannabinoids Can Promote Hair Growth: CBD, THCV & CBDV
Did you know that cannabinoids could promote hair growth? Recent studies have shown that CBD, THCV, and CBDV can all help to stimulate follicle growth and keep your locks looking healthy and full! Each of these cannabinoids interacts with the body in a unique way, so it is important to understand the benefits of each before you decide which one is right for you. In this blog post, we will explore the research on cannabinoids and hair growth, and we will also take a look at how each of these molecules interacts with the human body. Keep reading to learn more!
First, you may be asking, “what are cannabinoids?” Cannabinoids are a class of molecules produced by the human body and by the cannabis and hemp plants that bind to the CB receptors in our body’s ECS. There are many different types of cannabinoids, but the three that we will be focusing on today are CBD, THCV, and CBDV. These molecules all have unique structures that allow them to interact with the CB receptors in different ways.
Now that we know a little bit more about cannabinoids, let’s take a look at how they can promote hair growth. One way that CBD, THCV, and CBDV stimulate hair growth is by interacting with the CB receptors in the body. The CB receptors are found in the hair follicles, and when these molecules bind to them, they help to stimulate follicle.
CBD, THCV, and CBDV are all derivatives of the cannabis plant. CBD is the most well-known cannabinoid, and it is also the most widely studied. THCV is a less well-known cannabinoid, but it has shown promise in preliminary studies on hair growth. CBDV is the least studied of these three cannabinoids, but it is thought to interact with the body in a similar way to CBD.
All three of these cannabinoids have been shown to stimulate hair growth in animal studies. CBD, THCV, and CBDV all bind to the CB receptors in the body and help to stimulate follicle growth. In addition, these molecules also help to keep the hair follicles healthy and promote cell proliferation. This means that cannabinoids could be a potential treatment for hair loss, and two researchers are looking into this potential right now!
Researchers, John Satino and Dr. Gregory Smith, have studied cannabinoids and hair growth for years. They recently completed a 180-day NIH-registered Phase 1 human clinical trial using a unique, natural, patent-pending formulation containing CBD, THCV and CBDV among other active ingredients called ALPHA VARIN™ Complex. John Satino was the lead researcher on the two best selling hair restoration drugs in history – Minoxidil (Rogaine®) and Finasteride (Propecia®), and Dr. Smith is a renowned expert on cannabinoid health and hair growth. Their latest trial showed that this formulation was safe and well-tolerated in humans. The next step is to conduct a larger Phase II clinical trial to evaluate the efficacy of this formulation in promoting hair growth.
The trial results are not yet available, but they will be published later this summer in the peer-reviewed International Journal of Trichology. Additionally, Dr. Smith is presenting his findings this month in Ireland at the International Cannabinoid Research Society Symposium. The preliminary data looks extremely promising and an improvement over their findings in a previous study by the two studying only CBD where twenty-six men and women between the ages of 18 and 55 were given either a placebo or a CBD-based formulation for eight weeks. The participants who were given the CBD-based formulation showed significant improvements in hair growth, while those in the placebo group did not. The preliminary results of their current study on CBD, THCV and CBDV are even more impressive.
Mr. Satino said, “I’ve never seen anything like it in any product I’ve researched before – including Minoxidil and Finasteride. Natural ALPHA VARIN™ Complex is a groundbreaking hair formula – a real game changer for hair restoration.” While, Dr. Smith stated, “Natural ALPHA VARIN™ Complex provides novel and potent effects at the cellular level of the hair follicle. ALPHA VARIN™ Complex works amazingly as a stand alone product and in synergy with other hair restoration products.”
So, how can you use these cannabinoids to promote hair growth? CBD and THCV are both available in topical form, so you can apply them directly to the scalp. CBDV is not currently available in topical form, but it is thought to be effective when taken orally. If you are interested in using cannabinoids to promote hair growth, talk to your doctor or a dermatologist to see if they are right for you.
